The Pro-Life Movement: Dangerous, Selfish, Lazy:

When a living, air-breathing human being actually comes into the world, being “pro-life” becomes infinitely harder. This requires you to actually care about people. The sort of care that takes a critical mind, patience, and self awareness. The sort of care that requires figuring out why things are the way they are so that you can work toward actually fixing them. The sort of care that takes compassion and an unending dedication to a better for life for all humans.

The sort of care that marching around, waving huge dead baby posters, and calling women murderers is completely and utterly devoid of.

— Laci Green.

To add on:

A sort of care that comparing abortion to rape and the Holocaust/any genocide or the extreme focus on sex-selective abortions or telling people to deal with the punishment of a pregnancy for having sex or calling them sluts is completely absent.

Anti-choicers don’t actually care about people.  (via stfuprolife)

Rachel Maddow Remembers George Tiller (VIDEO)

I think the thing we should take away from this, aside from the sadness of Dr. Tiller’s death, is that the physician who stepped up to perform abortions in Kansas after his death is now being targeted just like Dr. Tiller was. Almost exactly.

Her home address has been released and anti-choicers have been encouraged to harass her at her home. She has received death threats from people who are friendly with Scott Roeder. She is being frivolously sued.

The fact that NO legislators have passed legislation to protect abortion providers means a lot. Their silence about this couldn’t make their message any more clear.

Abortion providers deserve to be protected from violent people. They do not deserve to be harassed at their home or, in Dr. Tiller’s case, need to have law enforcement officials live in his home with him for years just to make sure nobody tries to kill them.

Who is going to protect this woman? If no one wants to introduce legislation that protect abortion providers, it’s only a matter of time before another physician is murdered.

Love,

Rabble

Abortion Funds [compiled]

bebinn:

I’ve found new resources for people in need of access, funds, transportation, and lodging for abortions, so I’m compiling all my posts on the subject into one, for easy reference:

Need Help Paying for an Abortion? - National Network of Abortion Funds and The National Abortion Federation

Abortion Funds by State

National Abortion Funds (United States)

International Abortion Funds

Abortion funds cannot cover the entire cost of your abortion, but they will give as much as they can and help you find other funds and ways to pay for your abortion.

Some clinics, including Planned Parenthood, offer their services at a reduced fee for those who can’t afford the regular price. Contact the clinic nearest you to see if that’s an option.

Medicaid covers abortion in 15 states. Check to see if yours is one of them.

Fund Abortion Now has a checklist of ways to raise money for your abortion. If you’re running out of ideas, check it out.

Apparently, life-saving abortions aren’t abortions you guys.

Um.

I wonder if they know that the actual term for a miscarriage is “spontaneous abortion”?

It’s funny how words mean things and pro-lifers like to ignore that and make up their own definitions because it jives better with their worldviews on abortion.

I promise you that the removal of an ectopic pregnancy is most certainly done to kill the embryo. If caught early, medications that cause the death of the embryo and eventual termination of the pregnancy can be administered and surgery is avoided altogether.

But this is irrelevant because if abortion were made illegal it wouldn’t just be applied to people who want 70 abortions a day so they can go out and be even bigger whores the next day. It also affects people with ectopic pregnancies. It also affects any scenario where the pregnant person’s life is in danger.

Consequences….and pro-lifers tell people who get abortions that they don’t think of the consequences of sex. HA! I don’t think people who get abortions are the ones who need to think about the consequences of their choices (especially since the majority were using some form of birth control implying they were aware of all of the possible consequences of sex).

This is the only thing I’ve liked from this meme. PERFECTION.

The only thing that bothers me about this is the term “abortionist”. Aboriton providers aren’t abortionists, they’re doctors. Usually Ob/Gyns and they do a lot more than abortions.

@PatriciaHeaton tweeted some racist shit today:

Before you celebrate abortion Mr. President, you should go to this site: blackgenocide.org/black.html

So, if you are watching The Middle or re-runs of Raymond…stop.
THE ANTIDOTE FOR THIS BULLSHIT IS ALWAYS SHARK-FU and her amazing “The Battle Hymn of Dangerous Black Woman…”

I am a black woman.
I am your enemy if you seek to oppress me and mine.
I am dangerous as hell if you seek power through my oppression.
I am suspect if you fear someone who does not actively seek to be like you, to please you, or to give you strength through my submission.
I am something to be feared if you fear the empowerment of others.
I am - unbought, unbossed, and unashamed.
Reproductive justice didn’t happen to me.
Fighting for the right to determine whether to have children, to raise the children we have, and to raise our families in communities free of violence and oppression…all of that wasn’t done to black women.
All of that was and is done with black women, by black women for black women.
We are of this movement.
Always have been.
Always will be.
So reproductive justice didn’t happen to me.
I am reproductive justice.

Dead to me.

(Photo) This is a post dedicated to Dennis the clinic escort.
Dennis is a grandfather who drives 40 minutes each way (sometimes on his motorcycle!) to escort here in the city on Thursday mornings; he often volunteers on Saturday mornings, too. He posted this photo on Facebook to show me that gloves are better than mittens for, um, communicating with anti-choicers.
Men who are committed to protecting abortion access make me so happy. <3

Fake “Clinic” Cons 17-Year-Old Girl

prolongedeyecontact:

An Indiana mother recently accompanied her daughter and her daughter’s boyfriend to one of Indiana’s Planned Parenthood clinics, but they unwittingly walked into a so-called “crisis pregnancy center” run by an anti-abortion group, one that shared a parking lot with the real Planned Parenthood clinic and was designed expressly to lure Planned Parenthood patients and deceive them.

The group took down the girl’s confidential personal information and told her to come back for her appointment, which they said would be in their “other office” (the real Planned Parenthood office nearby). When she arrived for her appointment, not only did the Planned Parenthood staff have no record of her, but the police were there. The “crisis pregnancy center” had called them, claiming that a minor was being forced to have an abortion against her will.

The “crisis pregnancy center” staff then proceeded to wage a campaign of intimidation and harassment over the following days, showing up at the girl’s home and calling her father’s workplace. Planned Parenthood’s clinic director reports that the girl was “scared to death to leave her house.” They even went to her school and urged classmates to pressure her not to have an abortion.

The anti-choice movement is setting up these “crisis pregnancy centers” across the country. Some of them have neutral-sounding names and run ads that falsely promise the full range of reproductive health services, but they dispense anti-choice propaganda and intimidation instead. And according to a recent article in The New York Times, there are currently more of these centers in the U.S. than there are actual abortion providers. What’s more, these centers have received $60 million in government grants. They’re being funded by our tax dollars.

Planned Parenthood Action Fund, 24 April 2006

[Emphasis mine. Hear that folks? We are funding terrorists with our tax dollars. The fact that this is legal is absolutely mind-blowing. And when we dare complain, they cry about how they’re being persecuted and censored unfairly, and we’re infringing on their freedom of speech. No, just no. This should not be fucking allowed.]

ETA: Some people in the notes were wondering about the veracity of this story so I found the original source (the citation above was all that was given at the website I got this from). Here’s some more quotes from the original story:

We [Planned Parenthood] have obtained permission to share some of the remarks the patient and her family wrote soon after their encounter with the CPC.

“I have been getting phone calls [from the CPC volunteer] at home and on my cell phone, and they came to my work… saying ‘we will come get you and throw you in a car and take you to a place that is safe.’  I made my decision [to have an abortion].  Even though I had talked to [the CPC person] before, she has no right to be giving out information about me [and my family].  They need to quit harassing me and my family and loved ones.  They have come to my home banging on my door and non-stop calling me.  I have heard racial comments about my boyfriend [and me].  They keep yelling my name, my mother’s, and my boyfriend’s.  They have no right giving out my information, and they need to respect my and my boyfriend’s decision. … They are trying to trap me but this is my decision and no person has forced me and I would like them to stop harassing me, my family, my boyfriend, and my work.”

Her mother added:

“These people have given [our personal contact] information to someone at [my daughter’s] school.  Now it seems even the students know certain things and are giving my daughter and her boyfriend a hard time as well.  Also, the faculty has heard things, too.  These people [the CPC personnel] have been standing outside Planned Parenthood yelling obscenities at all who enter.  My daughter’s, her boyfriend’s, and my name have been yelled out for all to hear.”

ETA #2: You might also be interested in this post I did awhile ago on more recent investigations of CPCs and their deceptive tactics.
