I’m sorry but…

theemeraldemperor:

I think the new health care reformation having a clause which prevents it’s benefits from being used toward abortions is a positive.

I feel this way, mostly because I am pro-life & I do not encourage my tax payments (which are usually around $1500-$2000 anually) to be contributed toward abortion funding.

I agree that there are circumstances where abortion might be 1. a necessary health precaution for mother/child 2. a choice of misconception due to rape or abuse. I do not support abortion in the reasoning of “Fuck, I don’t want this kid, I think I’ll just have it scrambled.”

I feel that the health reform should allot an understanding for situations aforementioned, but I wholeheartedly support this act, in general. I feel that, not only will it discourage the act of getting an abortion, it will increase the rate of women & men taking necessary precautions to prevent having an unwanted child.

See, the anti-choice movement would like to you to believe that restrictions discourage women from getting abortions. Except that’s completely false.

http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/8305217.stm

As you can see, restrictions and bans do not reduce abortion (Not surprising since abortion has been going on for eons). Further, in countries where abortion is illegal or restricted, 70,000 women die of unsafe abortions. And since 60% of women who are having abortions are already mothers, this orphans tens of thousands of children every year. And lastly, around 85% of women who are having abortions are using some form of contraception.

So, as you can see, the Stupak amendment is not going to do what you hope it will do. Instead it will increase the amount of back-alley abortions which will not only strain the healthcare system but kill women.

The only real way of reducing abortion is through comprehensive sex education that focuses on contraceptive use instead of abstinence and a matching ease of contraceptive accessibility (something the healthcare act does not support). You want proof? Go look at Holland. Holland has no abortion restriction but the use of two contraceptive methods is common. Holland has the lowest worldwide rate of abortion.

Anti-choice policies kill women and anti-choice propaganda spreads lies like this.

Love,

Rabble
