When the Emancipation had been signed nearly every country in Europe had made slavery illegal. It was only a matter of time before the US also made it illegal.
Also, Abraham Lincoln did not sign the Emancipation because it was an ethical thing to do. He wasn’t some amazing dude who was ahead of his time. He signed it because it was a war strategy. A very convenient one. Lincoln knew that if he made the Civil War about slavery, the South would not have as many allies. The truth is that the South should have won the war and they would have had a lot of allies to help them do so. Signing the Emancipation made the war about slavery, though, and by signing it Lincoln made sure that all of the South’s most likely allies would not stand with them since all of them had ended slavery in their own countries a few years prior.
Signing the emancipation was a war strategy, it was not an ethical decision. Slavery would have ended even if Lincoln hadn’t abolished it.
Also, abortion was legal when Lincoln was being raised and while he was president.
