Anonymous asked: What is the general consensus in the pro-choice movement about whether or not the man should have to be forced to pay child support for a child they don't want? I agree that he has no right to dictate to a woman that she should keep it or be rid of it, but I am really torn about forcing the man to pay for years and years of child support, especially if the baby was initially an unwanted accident.
I don’t know that there is a general consensus and I don’t speak for everyone who identifies as pro-choice but I think this quote pretty much sums up that way I, personally, feel about this issue:
“Yes, individuals can be made to pay money to support their children, even when those children are unwanted. But as a matter of common sense, the mandating of financial payments, however burdensome, does not rise to the level of imposition upon bodily integrity implicated by pregnancy.”
I read this on STFU, Conservatives awhile ago and it goes to a CNN article that’s a great read.
